Everipedia: the Blockchain’s “Wikipedia 2.0” Goes Live

The new online encyclopaedia Everipedia, dubbed the next generation Wikipedia and based on blockchain technology, has just gone announced that its new platform has gone live.

Pioneered by Larry Page, one of the original two founders of Wikipedia, Everipedia incorporates a set of token-based incentive mechanisms for contributors – based on the platform’s native IQ token hosted on the EOS blockchain – to help address Page’s own concerns concerning the lack of editorial standards seen on the world’s leading open access online encyclopaedia.

According to the project’s press release, contributors to Everipedia are rewarded with IQ tokens for both contributing content and for curating – either editing or correcting – content that has already been submitted to the platform. “These tokens entitle the token holder to governance and voting rights within the network, essentially making every editor a stakeholder in the network,” its press release states.

Over six million English-language articles have already been submitted to the blockchain-based online encyclopaedia which, the Everipedia project team claim, means that its new platform has now already exceeded the equivalent number on Wikipedia.

Originally planned as an ICO back in December of 2017, the project instead received $30m backing from venture capitalist Mike Novogrataz in February of 2018, making it at the time the most ambitious project to date to be hosted on the EOS blockchain.
