The authorities have been closely monitoring the trading of cryptocurrencies and the potential risks, but have yet to see a strong case for banning the trading of bitcoin and other virtual currencies on domestic exchanges.

After yesterday’s revelations that Coinbase had implemented a ban on payments made to Wikileaks Shop from its own platform, it now appears that the anti-censorship group has gone on the offensive, announcing today via its Twitter account that it intends to organise a generalised boycott of the crypto-currency exchange.

Pornhub on Tuesday announced that it is accepting anonymity-focused cryptocurrency Verge to keep current with its community’s payment preferences.

Close on the heels of a ban on the sale of cryptocurrency miners and offering virtual currency and mining tutorials, Chinese online shopping website Taobao has now banned all products or services that make use of the Blockchain technology.

The start of 2018 hasn’t been the most exciting time for crypto space. The overall market value has dropped from above $800 billion to somewhere around $300 billion at the moment.
